I have the Wilson Mobile 4G in question. I also have a couple of Wilson Sleek's. The Sleek is good for about 18db gain in signal. If you're on the edge of signal the Sleek will pull it in. As mentioned it's not magic. There will be areas with zero signal. Part of why Verizon has a longer reach than AT&T is the difference in technology (3G). It's CDMA vs GSM. When talking 4G things start to even out.
I've only had time to use the Mobile 4G one time. I've had it about two weeks. The internal antenna has a promised reach of 5ft. This is being generous. I only tested with 2 devices. It promises 5 devices can be boosted at one time. Occasionally turning the booster on/off I would see an average gain of 8db of signal. Moving the internal antenna next to our phones they both saw an immediate gain of 35db. I drove to an area where my Sleek never saw signal. The Mobile 4G gave me 4 bars of 1x. This was using the exact same outside antenna. My outside antenna is routed through the firewall on to the hood.
It will be a few weeks before I head to bad cell coverage again. On the way down the mountain with the Mobile 4G I had 4G signal where the Sleek struggled to get me 1X. Both products work great. If thinking about the Mobile 4G the cell device will likely need to be next to it. Wilson probably does this for occupant radiation safety. The Mobile 4G specs indicate a 2.5amp draw. Not bad if on shore power. I think the 4G Sleek is under 1amp.
If your thinking of Hotspot a cell phone I would avoid the current generation Apple products on Verizon or Sprint. The Vzw and Sprint Iphone are different than the AT&T and T Mobile. Android is very easy to hotspot. There is an app called Foxfi. No additional recurring charges. Also, Vzw and Sprint Iphone can not talk/data at the same time. This was an Apple decision. All 4G Androids accomplish this. The next gen Apple stuff should be here in September in limited availability. Apple might correct their mistake? I'm not bashing Apple. If you need to depend on it for service you should know the ins/outs.
Verizon has a new 4G network that is only available to the newest phones. My Galaxy S5 is one of them. Not sure which products can access it. Maybe the 2014 HTC One (M8)?
