It can largely depend on the auto Spam controls by your email provider. Google has been noted for being one of the best in filtering out spam. In fact, some just use a GMail account to filter out spam from another email provider. Basically, retrieving their email from another provider directly through GMail. You can optionally auto forward post spam filtered messages to another email of your choosing. Have also found Outlook.com email to have fairly good auto spam controls. Better than AOL.
The next step would be to manually flag specific spam. Most email clients nowadays have some type of spam learning controls. This may only be fairly effective.
And finally, you can create specific email filters which can not only target the domain name, but also keywords used in messages to otherwise identify hard to detect spam.
