Well it's not more cells. it's BIGGER CELLS.
TO make a smaller compaison..
WHen you say that three 12's is 50 percent more cells
THink of AAA batteries v/s D cells.
Now I can make up a bank of 8 AAAs in series/parallel to produce 6 volts..
Or I can do it with 3 D cells
Which do you think will handle the bigger load?????
