iPad not connected?

Hi all--My DW's IPad is doing something that mine does not. She must manually connect to our wifi before beginning (where I do not) and after she is connected, shortly thereafter, her IPad will be disconnected from the wifi again. Sometimes, this happens enough times during a session that it gets aggravating! What gives? How do I fix it for her? Thanks!

    I do not do Incomplete Operating System Devices (IOS) but I have some knowledge of Wi-Fi issues.

    One option when connecting (This is an ADVANCED) option is to automatically get i/P address and DNS from Host. or to set Static IP and DNS.

    I do it both ways depending.... Now my story.....

    Years ago where I am just now they put in a Wi-Fi router. A linksys, the took it out of the box and I do not recall if they changed the SSID or just plugged it in and turned it on (I know they did NOT change the Default admin sign in).

    Well I'd get to the Dome long about 7 to 7:30, Connect and have good Wi-Fi. Others showing up around say 8:30-9am. NO JOY

    I'd hook 'em up Manual (Static) and show 'em how to Reset when to automatic and all were happy.

    I finally fed the router the default admin log in and found it only assigned 50 Addresses.. They it was all out.. Changed it to 100 and more were happy.

    We got a new manager and I helped him change the password.. I do not know what the new one was so I could no longer get in to the admin functions.

    Don't know why it took me as long as it did to figure out they never changed the password.. and no I won't tell you what it is.

    But she may have her device set to Static IP and if it convilcts to another device.. That could cuase it to get booted out.

    And then there are a host of other causes.. Above my pay grade I fear.
  • Most problems can be fixed by doing a hard reboot.
    Hold both buttons down till it shuts off.
    That would be the off button up top and the home button at the bottom of the screen.
    Wait a bit then turn it on again.
    This is always your first go to fix.
  • Restarting the iPad and your router would be good first steps.

    After that, determine which security protocol your router is using. If WEP, that could be the source of the problem. You should use WPA2, if supported on your router. Use WPA, otherwise.

    If your router is already using WPA or WPA2 or the problem still persists, renew the DHCP on the iPad. It has been a long time since I've looked at an iPad, but believe that is done by tapping Settings, tapping WiFi, tapping the symbol to the right of the SSID for the router. On the next screen, tap on Renew Lease.

  • Which model iPad? The first generation iPad airs are famous for this and refreshing/restoring the iPad and updating the iOS does nothing to fix it.

    My wife's iPad Air stays connected regardless. On mine, I have to usually reconnect after idle periods, but then it stays connected until the next time I try to use it, then I have to refresh the connection.
