IPad not recognizing WIFI

I have my IPad setup to automatically connect to my WIFI at home. When I open the cover to wake it up, it doesn't see the WIFI. I can go to the settings & it shows that it is connected to my WIFI but it will not work on the WIFI. If I turn the WIFI off & then turn it back on, it will start working or I can turn the IPad off & on & that also makes it start to work. As long as I am using the WIFI, it continues to work. It almost feels like it is timing out if I don't use it for a while. It started doing this a couple months ago after I upgraded to IOS 8. I called Apple & they had me reinstall IOS 8 but that didn't help. Any suggestions??

Thanks,

Big Rig
  • Turning the IPad using reset is the first and usually best option for the many IOS problems. It would be nice if they fixed them instead

Charlie D......The Home button on the IPad is a round button located on one side of the front. Pressing tht button alone will take you back the initial screen with all the icons for the aps.

nomad927.........Tried the hard reboot & it didn't work.

rk911 & 100ton...........Discarded my WiFi on the IPad and added back....."IT WORKED" :B

    I am wondering why I didn't think of that....:S

I am also wondering why the lady from Apple didn't know that..:?

Thanks for the replies & especially rk911 for coming up with the answer.

Glad you got it to work:) Most Apple tech people know that, you just got a rookie. If I get the sense that the tech person is unsure in her answers, I just ask to speak to a Senior supervisor. It is not unusual to have to delete and reinstall an account when it is not working correctly, but fortunately it dosen't happen very often.

Pardon my ignorance but what is the "Home" button? My HP would not connect although the AT T modem says it was. I wasn't using it so did not look for a cause. One morning my Toshiba did the same thing. An hour on the phone with AT&T finally got the HP corrected but they could not help with the Toshiba. Took the Toshiba to my sons house and it connected immediately. The Toshiba finds the modem and says it is connected.

remove that wifi connection from the list and then re-establish it.

This worked for me on my iPhone.

I have had to "reboot" or reinstall my AT&T modem by putting in the password to add the account, but only one time.
I just bought a new iPad Air 2 and hooked up to both wifi and my cellular data. I want to be able to use my iPad anywhere and not be limited to wifi connections or hot spots. I pay $3.99 per month with AT@T to be hooked up to my cellular data plan. Just another option.
