Maybe I'm a grumpy Luddite, but I was quite happy with the screen size of the Motorola Cliq, and the iPhone 4. The 5 and 5S are tolerable, but the 6 and 6+ are growing so large that they can't fit into a back pocket.
I do understand why phones are getting bigger, and it isn't "consumer demand". It is because there is pressure on phone makers like Apple, Samsung, and others to have faster CPUs and better graphics... and this produces heat. The larger phone is for more surface area to dissipate the heat that is generated from all of this.
The larger size also helps with including a bigger battery, and all the additional CPU and graphics are taxing on that as well.
The one electronic device I miss the most is my old Palm V. It didn't do much... but it was designed to be simple and functional with a black and white display.
