Ipod touch or nexus 7 ?

I would think kids would enjoy the Nexus 7 more. Certainly more versitile than the ipod. The only trouble is Apple seems to have the "cool" factor for kids. Tough choice. I would think the larger screen would make it useful for school activitis like taking notes, doing research, etc.

The Nexus 7 would probably be fun for the first month or so until it breaks. On the other hand, they will probably still be using the iPod years from now.

Kids seem to really like the iPods.
Seen my nephews and nieces iPods get tossed around, scratched, stepped on...
I wouldn't expect the Nexus to last too long especially in the hands of the younger kids.

Either would get rubber cases before going under the tree.

Be aware the 4th gen iPod touch will not do iOS 7- it's stuck on 6, but the Android models seem to be stuck on whatever version they come with as well.
I like my 4th gen 32gb touch a lot- hasn't given me a moments problem.

My kids (6 and 9) both have N7 tabs. They love them and we do too.
I will say that both of them have cracked their screens (unusable).
Warranty replaced them both but at the expense of a new warranty purchase.
My sons was replaced with a 2013 2nd Gen tablet and I must say the 2nd gen is better tab. The lack of a rear camera on the 1st gen is sa bummer for kids.

I doubt that's actually the case? AFAIK, Nexus 7 is built by ASUS who gets their components, if not also contracting out the build from Foxxcon, who also have traditionally supplied and built Apple's iPhones/iPod Touches.

But have to agree, that kids would likely be more interested in a portable unit that they can easily carry with them like the iPod Touch.

I have both. Ipod touch 4th gen and Nexus 7 1st and 2nd gen. We also have Ipad mini.
Kids really enjoyed ipod touches however since Ipads arrived on the scene the touches get less use.
The touches are more durable for sure however if you use a rubber case the Nexus 7 can hold up as well.
I am not an Apple fan but the rest of my family is. Apple is a bit more kids friendly than Android especially for younger kids.
I would be a little concerned about being stuck on IOS6 eventually this could be an issues as newer products come out.
While updates do not come as fast as I would like, Google's own products (Nexus) are generally updated to stay working/current. Google takes care of their own Android line, better than they do competing Android manufacturers.

In the end I think I would go Ipod based more on your kids ages. The ipod is more durable,and a bit more kid friendly. The N7 is more of an adult toy vs. the Ipod. Eventually they will be more likely to outgrow ipod touch vs. the N7, but you can cross that bridge down the road.

If they are on the same iTunes account, apps already purchase for the kids should install to the Touch. While there might be a limit on number of devices to an account, I think it is at least 5.

My daughter's family has an iPhone, three Touches (gen 3 and 4) and two iPads (different generations) sharing an account and a music library. Each person has the apps, music, books and videos they prefer, though they've come from a single account. I think each device is still using the iOS version shipped with it, my SIL is not much into dealing with system upgrades.

I use iTunes on PC to manage what goes on to each device (I have only two so far) and manage my music library, but I think you can now do much of this on iCloud.

My grandson was fluent in the use of his aunt's iPad, and my iPad, and was extending that experience to the exploration of my iPod Touch, four months before his second birthday. But he had little prior computer experience to confuse him. When I went to the AT&T store to look at an iPad, while I was staring at it trying to figure out where to start, a toddler pushed past me, opened the menu, searched out her favorite app and started playing it.

People coming from Windows (my mother, and a couple of friends in their 80s and 90s) struggle with the change of paradigm. But I understand that, been through it in several phases, my first coding was in binary, an assembler was a big step forward. 30 years later when they put graphical user interfaces into our Unix and VMS environments, first thing us old hands would do on logging in would be to open a terminal window and start typing in commands.

The Apple lovers have bashed the Nexus 7 without justification. I have had a Nexus 7 for almost a year. It is a great device, it is rugged, and I can do just about anything with it. I readily admit though I hate Apple and their funky means of trying to control their followers. I did have to reluctantly buy and Ipod though because the car audio manufacturers have succumbed to the Apple frenzy by only making car stereos that work well with Ipod's instead of generic MP3 players.
