Is anyone using Wi-Fi In Motion?

I either use my unlimited data 4G phone or a dd-wrt router functioning as a virtual access point for poor cell service areas where only campground Wi-Fi is available. The VAP allows multiple devices to log onto services like TengointerNot. To me, the phone is the ideal solution as you can take your hotspot anywhere. Dd-wrt converted routers can be picked up on eBay for around $30. I think there is even a kit with an exterior antenna called something like JaffaTech. I added a 3' antenna to mine but saw little improvement. Bottom line is there is signal or there ain't. If I consistently was camped in a signal challenged area, I would consider a pricey solution but not one of the "Wi-Fi in Motion" gimmicks. The goal is get something up into the air to grab over-the-horizon signal. I can also VAP my 4G hotspot through the router and achieve a much wider coverage radius.

It seems Cradlepoint's and Wilson's are reasonably priced boosters too. Alfa makes a $50 AP/repeater also.

Has anyone tried the Virgin Mobile MiFi? Thanks:h

Verizon jetpack and it works great...usually always have service. Tried T-Mobiles and it was worthless. Only had service in the major cities, a waste of $150.

We use it going down the road all the time. Great for traffic reports and weather. We started using it about 3 rears ago because of all the unreliable campground WIFI systems. According to the Autonet website this is a 2.5G and 3G system only which makes it essentially obsolete.

Here's another vendor the OP may want to consider.... I'm using a system called AutoNet. Hdwr is about $300 at Critchfield. Data plan is $59.00/month for 5 GB. It uses a cell connection that is managed by the vendor so I don't have to have an individual account. I think they have contracts with multiple cell providers because it works pretty much anywhere.

I agree. I am not sure you got the message about the product vs. the other options available. You could get a free air card added to your current cellular account and purchase a device like a Cradlepoint router for around $100 and you would have the same or better equipment with the added ability to use WiFi as WAN to connect to available WiFi services when they are available (saving your limited cellular data).
You could also buy a MiFi device (I would recommend Millenicom if you think you will use that much data) but it does not have the capabilities provided by a Cradlepoint. Before you buy, do some additional research.

At $800 for the hardware and an unknown monthly cost for the data plan, my opinion is that "WiFi in Motion" system is way overpriced for what you get. Similar data service and equipment is readily available from other sources at a much lower cost.

Millenicom/Verizon 20GB/mo data plan MiFi hardware $165, data $70/mo.

Wilson Sleek $75

Now, if the OP was actually talking about the product "WiFi in Motion" then I simply gave information that was not directly related to the OP's question.
