Is my Directv receiver dying?

I have a D11-100 receiver in my RV. It has always performed flawlessly, till now. I have done 2 things that may have affected it, or it may be dying.

I installed SWM in the house, but ran a homerun wire from the RV to Legacy Port 1 of the SWM8 switch.

I took my RV receiver over to my Mother's house to demonstrate for my brother how to set up a tripod antenna. Then I brought it back and hooked it back up in the RV.

Now, when I turn on the receiver, or change channels, I get sound immediately but it is a full 10 seconds before the video appears on my TV.

What is going on?
  • There is an update to this old thread.

    1. That receiver died. However, when I replaced it with a new D12-100, I learned that the dying receiver was not the reason for the extended time to get a picture.

    2. If the receiver has been off long enough to not have the program guide stored, it will download the program guide again. The notice on the TV screen says it may take up to 3 days to fully download. What the Directv rep told me is that during that big download, the screen update on channel changes is extended due to limited bandwidth issues.

Unplug the receiver from the outlet and let it sit idle for 10 minutes.

Plug it back in. This seems to fix most problems when a box has been working and then begins doing weird things.

OK, I unplugged it for 10 minutes, then plugged it back in and did the setup again.

One of those apparently fixed it. It is working properly now.

    Thanks

did it work perfect when you setup the swm8 in the first place?

I don't really know, I just turned it on to be sure it worked, then turned it back off.

did the antenna type change? somethings they will redetect the antenna.

No, both are round 18" antennas.

was his swm as well? is it only the one receiver?

No, his was my tripod antenna I use on the road with my RV. I was just demo'ing it.

  • I could understand it when it first comes on, but changing channels.. that's weird. Have you visited the Directv support forums?

    Receivers can die.
  • Unplug the receiver from the outlet and let it sit idle for 10 minutes.

  • Good question, sometimes I have the same problem but I doubt my equipment is dying.
