It's probably not worth it. Without knowing the specs of your XP machine, no one can say much about the upgrade. Many XP machines came with only 512MB of memory which is inadequate for running Win 7.
If it's a rarely used machine, I would look on-line for a very low cost machine running a newer OS. You should be able to find refurbished machines with WIn 7 for a decent price. Something like this: Refurbished desktop with Win 7 Home
