iTunes Library

running win 10 pro. hard drive is partioned. one partition contains all of my music. each artist has their own folder on the partition which contains individual songs. using SETTINGS:OTHER i have pointed iTunes to that partition but none of the music shows up in the iTunes library. doing a bit of experimenting i found that i can manually add a song to the library by right-clicking on the sng and then opening it in iTunes. i have hundreds of titles and doing that will take forever. got to be a better way to get all of those titles into the library. thoughts??
  • I can't help you but I suggest you stay away from iTunes. Just when you think you have it figured out the change things up. It is the most frustrating software I ever played with.

Start with a simple search like "building a music library"
If you can find a forum on it go for it.

been there, done that. nothing that addresses my problem. but thanks. as for iTunes i want to sync my music to my iPhone and iPad. hmmm...maybe there's another way to sync without itunes.
  • I think you need to point it to each individual artist folder you have created. In other words, it needs to see the individual music files. Not just the folder.
  • Perhaps try to select all the folders by holding down the shift key, select the first folder, then continue to hold the shift key select the last folder, and then all the folders should auto select. If it doesnt work on the folders it would probably work on all the files in each folder. Then right click send to or you may be able to drag and drop them all. One of the main ways Apple keeps you locked in their ecosystem is to hold your music hostage. They been doing that for years.

yup, tried that, too. the 'open in itunes' only works by selecting a single song. pointing itunes at a folder doesn't work either.

i did see a suggestion via a google search to do a straight up copy using file explorer. connect my phone va usb cable and just copy the files from the music partition to the phone. might have to eliminate the folders...we'll see.

been using itunes to keep the devices up-to-date and that's been working well. but thought i could sync my music too. seems that won't be as EZ.

    any other suggestions?
  • From the iTunes menu, choose "file" and then "Add to library". That should open a window where you can select folders to add

    thanks..i'll give thst a try.
  • rk911 another setting you need to be aware of is where iTunes keeps your files. You can tell iTunes to keep ti where ever you want or allow it to fully control your files. As I use a Mac the location of where this setting is will be different but in my case in the Prefereence Pane I click on Advanced at the top it shows "iTunes Media folder location" then you have the "Keep iTunes Media Organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" if you don't understand all of those things there are a lot of very helpful sites that are only a quick google search away. I use iTunes to manage my 10,505 songs, plus Movies, etc. Works just fine, but I will say it works best when you let it be in control.

    x2.

Kodi works fine for my both music and video library. There is a forum, too. Very customizable interface and menus (too customizable, IMO).

Nice feature about it the 10-ft interface. Mostly, this is what I've chosen it for. Building library in Kodi can be done file by file, or folder by folder, or scanning/scraping the entire library. Results may vary.
