We find our data usage is far less than that under most circumstances. For example, Netflix permits to you to set the quality of the video stream you receive and, at the lowest quality setting (which is adequate for much of what we watch), the data usage is more like 1GB/2 hrs (roughly one movie).
If you insist on using a service, such as DirecTV Cinema which insists on downloading movies in full 1080p, then your data usage may be much higher.
