Jetpack settings help - cycling 4g, 3g, & 1x sitting still!

Hi all, I just got a Jetpack MHS291L and Verizon data. I'm still in stick n brick (city) until FT takeoff in 4 weeks, so the jetpack is sitting still but constantly cycling from 4g to 1x and 3g. I switched it from 2.4ghz band to 5.0ghz, and changed Global to LTE/CDMA but no change with either one being switched.

First, which settings are best? What's the difference on Global vs LTE/CDMA? And second, why is this cycling?

Thanks in advance!
  • You are confusing the Cellular and WiFi.2.4 & 5GHz bands are the Wifi and have nothing to do with the broadband.

Also, don't worry about what someones calculated coverage map says, because it's meaningless for this... What does the 'S' meter say? If the device is bouncing around like that, wither the Jetpack is in trouble, or your coverage stinks because thats not what it's supposed to do.

Put it up next to a window and look at the Rx level. Better yet, find the menu that shows the actual receive level.. It should look like "RSSI (xx)% (-xxdBm)" and report back with the value of "xx" That should be a solid number and in the 80's or less.
  • ignore Global, unless your doing international travel
as for Ghz settings, thats just too different wifi bands, gives you a choice in case the one band is more crowded in your area, using the other would give less chance of interference

We use VERIZON MIFI which is only a 3GB DATA PLAN. We use one of those WILSON SLEEK cradles to sit our MIFI unit into it for use. This WILSON SLEEK has an outside antenna connection. Really helped big time when using inside the metal framed trailers.

It just sits in the cradle - no connections required.

Looks like the JETPACK will fit the cradle as well... Just be sure the WILSON SLEEK will handle the 4G networks...

  • I had pretty much the same problem. Out of frustration I removed the battery, let it sit for a few minutes, put the battery back in and everything has worked fine ever since.

I have no idea if what I did fixed it, but the process was recommended to me and the Jetpack worked after.

Also, before I tried it I set all the settings back to default.
  • Weather can play havoc on radio signals. You are probably already in a fringe area so.... there are programs/apps to locate cell towers. Load one and start searching. Sometimes simply moving the jet pack helps.
  • I just realized it's snowing again.... maybe that's playing a part? It was a solid 4g for the first 20 min or so that it was hooked up today. It keeps dropping bars and speed now though and hasn't been above 3g in some time, with on and off drops to 1x

How good of a signal do you usually get there?

This is new and I was using cable internet before. Verizon's data map via zipcode say I'm in 4g tho :\
