Price it out. 1GB is too small these days. If 4GB isn't too much then yeah.
Personally I couldn't care about front side bus speed. I think that'll be the least of your worries.

Price it out. It's going to be IDE and could be expensive. If you can figure out a way to get more space and *faster* spin , larger cache you'll notice the difference.
I don't think they make IDE SSDs. Maybe the do.

Me? Nope - just use it as it.
If you can use Linux, then load lubuntu on it and max the performance of what you've got.
You know for $35 you can get a quad-core, 1GB Raspberry Pi running at 900MHz? Add $5 USB keyboard, $5 USB mouse, a $5 WiFi Dongle and a $75 monitor.
