While I agree that an ssd would probably be a good bang for the buck to add performance to an older computer, I hesitate to recommend that a non-techie type person attempt to install one. It's a trivial matter to us geeks but not so trivial to a non-techie. The whole process of cloning the original drive using a USB adapter and cloning software may be a little too daunting.
Of course the only one that can make that decision is Mex but I believe he has stated several times that he is not a techie.
