Kindle Unlimited?

Yup, that's how it works.

I also subscribe to a couple of those free Kindle book pages on Facebook. But those books, unlike the ones ordered by the library, can vary a LOT in quality. Many are first-time authors, and the books are, well, not to my taste.

At the library I use, which also has the Overdrive interface, I can also search the collection and add them to my wishlist. In that way, once I do finish a book, I can just go to the wishlist to select.

BTW, if you do use the library, please return your ebooks as soon as you finish them. In that way, you free up the copy for somebody else to read. In the Overdrive thing for Kindle books, you return books early via the Amazon list of your books, not directly from the library site.

My problem is always finding a good internet data connection point and the Free open WIFI HOT SPOTS I keep finding all have the same problem - Too many users resulting in low data transfer...

When you subscribe to a service like VERIZON or MILLENICOM to get you on the internet then you have to be prepared to pay for monthly service based on how much data you plan on using...

Looks like 20GB of data is around $80-$90 a month...

I think you're a bit confused about how it works. You don't necessarily need a Wi-Fi hotspot. It would depend on what device you use, and how you use it. You could load your device with up to 10 books, and not reconnect to Amazon until you are finished with them, or when you want to.

That's how I understand it works.

I'd jump on it in a heartbeat if they had more of the big publishers on board. I still may try the free trial, but I doubt I'd pay for it until the selection improves. Our local library doesn't have a very good selection of e-books, and there are typically long waiting lists. So it's not exactly appealing.

The Austin Public Library uses the Overdrive interface for ebooks. And, given Austin's size, I suspect they have a sizable collection of ebooks, too. Get yourself a library card and borrow library ebooks for free from any physical location where you have internet access.

Note that these books are downloaded in their entirety to the Kindle (or to your laptop and transferred to the Kindle), so you're not reading online. In other words, you need the internet only during the download, not while reading. Further, the file sizes of ebooks are surprisingly small, measured in a few hundred kilobytes, not megabytes. They download very quickly, even over a marginal internet connection.

Tell your wife she can get free books without either of these! Just go to Pixelofink.com and Bookbub.com. Sign up for free & they will email free and cheap choices for Kindle reading. There are others as well but I use those 2 and have plenty of free books.

Prime is great if you buy a lot from Amazon...free shipping and free return shipping.

Prime doesn't include e-books except those available in the Lending Library. Plus the Lending Library is limited to one a month. Kindle Unlimited is only e-books and works with all Kindles because there is no video or music as part of the package. No limits on the number of e-books per month.

Looks like it just came out today. Just curious, at $9.95 a month, what's the advantage to Kindle Unltd over Prime? The wife has a Paperwhite and we're looking at Prime for the free downloads, with $99 yearly subscription of course.
