Laptop Docking station without USB-C?

I have a Dell laptop that I'd like to connect 2 monitors too. Currently I can use the laptops screen plus 1 monitor. I'd rather have two larger monitors and keep the laptop closed. It is a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 which does not have a USB-C connector that many docking stations use. Is there a decent docking station that uses USB3?
  • There are various non USB-C ones out there, but my experience has been less than stellar. They do work, but not reliably. Be prepared for the occasional restart, etc.

In fact, Dell does offer a couple.
  • I had a USB docking station that worked great on my non C laptop and desktop
  • Look for the Dell docking station that has that single cable connector, but it also has a "usb" adapter on it too. I have several of them in my office, but I don't use the 'usb' adapter, but it's there, so should work?

No experience with them.. Just know that they were on the ones I got, but that was a couple of years ago?

Another alternative is they have USB to VGA/DMI/HDMI monitor cable connector adapters too. As long as you have multiple USB sockets on the laptop, this is an alternative too.

Does your laptop have a built in HDMI plug on it along with the VGA one?

    Good luck! Mitch
