I see we have stickies for cellphones, but not for Hot Spot modems. What is the latest? I am planning to go full time for several months this year and need modem without annual plan. In the past I had Virgin Mobile MI-FI for my occasional travel and $20 monthly plan work for me, but they updated to higher G, so my modem become useless.Now from what I read unlimited plans don't exist anymore, while 6GB plan cost $55. Any other, newer options?

T Mobil still has some unlimited plans that aren't really unlimited but seem to be a pretty good value in relation to all the other post paid plans. In fact you have one day left to get one of their Simple Choice North America plans. They are significant because of the "Binge On" plan that lets you stream unlimited video and music on certain services like Netflix without using your data. These plans all end tomorrow, 1/22/17. The other T Mobil plans are good also but nothing like the Simple. No I'm not involved with T Mobil just did a lot of research lately.

There's always the Calyx Institute hotspot- fully encrypted, uses Sprint network, virtually unlimited bandwidth. $500 first year, includes hotspot and bandwidth, $400 year after that.

Options? Everybody offers options. The key IMHO is do you have coverage where you travel? Verizon has by far the best coverage followed by AT&T.

The coverage is always risky- I know that very well. Even with my cellphone, working in the house 1 mile from Berkeley College, I had to go on the street to have strong signal. Than my favorite camping spot - in the middle of nowhere, 25 miles from nearest village, 50 miles from the city has all bars signal strength, as the antenna tower sits on other side of the lake. Also perfect coverage in Sierra Ski resorts. Additional question. I just bought a house in Las Vegas. Can such MI FI device be good equivalent to hardwired net?

We camp host throughout the summer and we have a GoPhone (by AT&T) that has 5 mg for $50 and is refillable or not monthly. We got the AT&T because where we hosted, AT&T offered the best service. Our phones are Verizon, but their service was spotty where we stayed.
