Don't dismiss the old incandescent bulbs entirely. A 100 watt bulb not only lights your house on a cold, dark winter night, but also emits 100 watts of heat to help keep you warm! Its more efficient than you realize. A CFL or LED bulb will produce the equivalent of a 100W bulb, but it sure won't help to heat your house.
