We had our Everest set up in our driveway and still couldn't get the local Direct TV channels. We were using the box out of a bedroom and a portable satellite dish. Guess the system knows when a box is out of the house.
You may live in an area where the local channels are carried on a satellite other than 101; if you were using a simple round dish with your RV you wouldn't be able to receive them. It has nothing to do with the receiver being out of the house; DirecTV has no idea where it is located. - Bill_SatelliteExplorer II

Since the box does not know, it could well the the type of antenna you were using. If it's different that the antenna on the house you may not be able to get your locals but everything else will be available. - Executive45Explorer III

Method 3: Close out the HOME account, and move all the receivers to an RV account, Subscribe to DISTANT NETWORK SERVICE. Of course, Direc may not let you do that either. I know of no one who has tried,, DNS gets you either NYC/Atlantic City or LA stations.
This is exactly what we have done. Only problem we've experienced is we have the West Coast feed and spent the past year on the EAST coast! All DW's fav shows start at 11PM!...DTV said they couldn't switch the feed from West to East without redoing everything...I was all for it but DW said forget it....guess which way we went....:B:B....Dennis - 2oldmanExplorer II

DVR's are great for that.

It's my understanding that DTV decides if you will get the eastern or western DNS feeds based on the billing address for your account. We are full-timers and use a mail service in eastern SD which is in the Central Time region so we get the eastern feed. People we know using a mail service in western SD (Mountain Time) get the western feed. - Bill_SatelliteExplorer III you call DirecTV (you may need to speak with a supervisor) you can request both E and W for an extra $5/month. They show in writing that only E or W is available but several people have reported successfully getting both my simply asking for them.
I have them but I am grandfathered in from a time when that was the standard. - 2oldmanExplorer II

I was going to do that and then I got a Genie (HR44) instead. With the ability to record or watch 5 channels at the same time I find I no longer need the other DNS feed to avoid conflicts when scheduling recordings.
