Microsoft Outlook

Outlook is an email client. Can you explain a bit why you need that? And why you're hanging on to old software?

You are asking if current Outlook is backward compatible with Office 2010. I am not aware of all the things the military had Microsoft program in their version but generally speaking you should be OK to do as described.

I switched to Thunderbird years ago and there are other free versions. Most will import your Outlook settings and expect some setup.

2Oldman - I would suspect the original poster is using an email client for the same reasons I do (using MS Outlook 7). I want the ability to read, write, and edit my emails without the necessity of being connected to the Internet. Also, I like the features available in Outlook that I don't find in the other newer clients I have briefly tried. My Outlook 7 continues to work great on my Windows 10 PC.

not the OP but i am an outlook user. simple answer for me is...it works and works well. together we have 10-different email addresses used for different purposes. outlook does what i need it to do plus a calendar that syncs to the calendar in our phones. currently using Outlook 2007 on a Win10 laptop. just because it's old doesn't mean it's useless.

Easy to use
easier to read than in a web browser
can use offline
I prefer the format and familiarity
can set up multiple addresses and review in all one program

That is just a few reasons of the top of my head why I use outlook.

OP replying.. I use Thunderbird now but keep having problems with it.. Always crashes.. Reloading does no good.. Am using Windows 10 on new computer so probably not an equipment issue.. Just looking for something more reliable to try..

It will work but some of the integration with office may not.

I switched to Thunderbird a few years back too. It's free and I haven't had any problems.

I have been using Thunderbird for well over 15 years. Very stable. Very few if any changes to the user interface. Very good HTML editor.

I use it with Gmail as my server, but I have set it up to work with multiple other email providers.

One of the best features is that you CAN make local folders for thing you want stored on your PC, inculding your DRAFTS folder. Moving mail between the server and the local folders is seamless. I have even used Thunderbird to move mail/folders between two different servers !
