They buy a hotspot device, and then use a tablet that is Wi-Fi only, not connected to cellular, like Verizon or AT&T IPad - Many also get a wifi only tablet and use a hotspot with that.
- The hotspot allows you to use your computer with the data being download by the phone. Not all phones/plans allow you to do this (also called tethering).
- I am curious how the people that have AT&T or Verizon have a hotspot with your telephone. I just got a smart phone from Consumer Cellular but the screen is way to small for me to use for Internet use.

I don't think Verizon will want to take on Carlos Slim and company in a contract battle. MVNO's are sort of like the seasonals or permanents at a campground, a guaranteed income with a very low cost of sales compared to retail customers.
Did not know of Carlos Slim, just did a Wikipedia on him. Wow. So he owns Tracfone. Don't think I'd mess with him either. Thanks for the info.- I called Verizon also, no help. I need pricing info ASAP ! But...I know they will say the same price...for a while and then jack it up!!!! I would love to get fixed price (the same) as long as we continue the service.

Weds, I called Verizon to see what was available just to do a price check. Then called Millenicom which I have had an account with for 3 years but it currently was on hold for the summer. They could not sell me a new mifi but I could use my old Samsung which had many problems. They told me to check with 3G. Called 3G and they said as of tuesday they could not activate Millenicom services.
Currently, Verizon has (for me) a 15GB for $90 month with a two year plan but I can only put it on hold for 3 months at a time, and 2 times a year (equals 6 months). I guess I will have to sign up for that. - Huh, we Just switched to Tracfone from Verizon this week!

Just doubled the data on our plan with Verizon....from 15 to 30. Have been with Verizon for a long time.
