We have an Optoma front-projector for our stick house home theater and it is spectacular. Our set up has a modest 80" screen.
It is indeed all about the lumens.
There will probably be a low-power laser projector in a few years but AFAIK there is no way around the power issue for a projector right now.
I could run my Optoma off my 2000w inverter/420ah bank but a 90 min movie would eat a lot of it up.
The suggestion of an efficient led-backlit lcd flat panel is a good one. Some tvs and many monitors have energy-saving low light options. (The typical desktop display is 4x brighter than a laptop since power is not normally a problem.) The screen size is the dominant factor for power consumption.
Do any of your fellow campers have a genset? I'd think a nice quiet Honda eu1000i would be sufficient.
