Are these Windows Updates? If so, go into settings and shut off automatic updates. Then go to update Windows on your own and do the update and you will be able to follow what is happening during the update. If it fails then you should see why. If these are not Windows updates from Microsoft you need to find the program that is trying to update and also shut off automatic updating. Then update on your own.
You can also try a System Restore back to a date before this first occurred. I would still recommend shutting down auto updating after you do the restore. You are much better off having control of all updates and do them when they are convenient for you to do them. If you do a system restore any software that you installed or changes that you made before the system restore date that restore uses will have to be reinstalled. (Data saved by those programs likely will not be deleted.)
