I'll echo the recommendation for Garmin Basecamp and use it frequently. Also, a route can be exported into .gpx format and imported into other GPS devices or other programs, such as CoPilot, the .gpx file can be converted by Route Converter into a .trp file and then copied into the appropriate directory on the device running CoPilot.
