Need New Antenna

I need to replace the antenna on my coach(oak tree ate it). It is a power antenna and the mechanism is OK. The plastic attach points broke on the antenna.
I have noticed some units on newer coaches that appear to be round and are about 8 - 10 inches off the roof. Is this a better replacement, or should go with one of these or just replace with the same type. Do the round ones have better range?

Thanks
  • The "flying saucer" antenna is from Jensen and Northwoods installed it on my current rig.
It's junk. With the rig parked in the driveway I get more "stations" with a random chunk of wire attached to the coax up on the roof.

If your antenna is the Jack, and also mounted just a few inches above the roof, it will probably work a little better.

Part of why neither works well is height, antennas work better higher, being close to the roof means the antenna does not work well, period. Doesn't matter who makes it.

The best, and I mean best, is the old Bat-wing, with the Bat-Man add on.
Tests showing this can be found here
  • If it just broke some plastic pieces, think of the damage it could have done if these pieces didn't break. I'd look for the same thing if the performance was satisfactory before it broke.

Now we know why oak trees are so strong. They'll eat anything.
  • 2'nd the opinion of the round antenna my buddy put one in and got half the channels i got in the next lot over. He ripped the old one off before he got there so i can't say what HE would have gotten with the batwing
  • If you're talking about the TV antenna, one of the Winegard crank-up batwings, then the newest version of that antenna has the best performance of any of the RV TV antennas. And you can get replacement parts for those antennas all over the internet.

Those little round antennas are pretty worthless,IMHO, unless you like to park under the TV transmission towers a lot. They just don't have the sensitivity to pick up signals from any distance.
