Several years ago I had Netflix. I had constant problems with buffering and quality was usually reduced below HD. I had 5 MBPS DSL connection. After many calls to them about the poor quality, I gave up and disconnected.Now several years later with new devices and a 50 MBPS cable connection, I tried it again. Certainly better but far too often in primetime I get the buffering to 25% and stall. Then when it does startup it is usually in reduced quality.Is this a common problem with Netflix or am I just too dumb to use it?I have even done speed tests on the internet while buffering is happening.Any comments?

When I use it with my hotspot (LTE), I get some occasional buffering, but not often.When I use it at home with my Xfinity connection, it never buffers.

What device are you watching it on? Using a Roku with a 50 meg cable connection I haven't had any issues.Also, who is the provider? They may limit speed on connections to netflix.

Do you have anything else to use to stream netflix as a test? It could be the netflix app in the tv. I normally use a PS3 but also a Roku. For 5 years I was DSL with maybe 10 down and didn't have buffer issues as a general rule. I'm 100 down now occasionally I can see the quality dip for a few minutes in the evening.I do think the number of folks on NETFLIX is part of it with 50MB service, you shouldn't have a regular issue. Have you done a speed test to see what your actual download speed is?

With a 50m cable connection, I am surprised you get any buffering at all and it should be in HD. My first thought is the cable connection quality - they may be "throttling" usage at certain times, and sometimes cable internet simply can get bogged down during high usage times by everyone in the surrounding area. Are you actually getting 50m speed? Have you tried speedtest.net to check the cable internet speed? If you are willing to do the merry-go-round, call your cable company and double check about your contract to see if it has any kind of speed limit included. Also, if your speed tests are showing you aren't getting the speed your are paying for, is your cable modem updated? If it is out of date, the cable company might replace it for "free" as part of your contract ("might" is the key word...). It is also possible that there is an issue out in the street connections for your cable internet. That has to be determined by a cable tech coming out and testing it - they won't do that until all other options are exhausted. Good luck! and try to keep a good attitude in calling the cable company!!

Not trying to turn this into a Roku thread, but another plus is the ability to search for a movie in the Roku search and it will tell you where/if it is available, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc. I have Netflix and Amazon Prime so it's handy.

Netflix pays a fee to Comcast to not throttle its content - Google search

We use a WiFi router with an older Samsung flat screen and have no issues with Netflix - we get buffering when watching Amazon thouh.

So look to your ISP for the issue.

I also have a new Samsung TV and mine occasionally buffers and hangs at 25% on 20 Meg via my Time Warner cable WiFi.
I think the WiFi receiver in the TV is weak, because it is close to my WiFi router and signal is excellent. I think the solution is to bridge the TV to my router with network cable.

Oh, as to devices you can use for streaming Netflix to a TV, we actually use a Nintendo Wii. So look around, you might be surprised at what can stream movies.

Thanx for all the suggestions.

I am wireless to the TV. Real speed test is over 50 even when it is buffering.
Unfortunately it would be impossible to run a cable to the TV. I have a Roku but it is not here. I also have a Samsung Smart DVD. I will check if that is wireless.

Just seems odd if it was a TV problem that it would just do it in the evening. Seems more like a Netflix problem during heavy usage or the cable.

Streaming NF on my smartphone using Verizon 4g almost never buffers. Using it via my house fiber it will buffer in the evening. So will Amazon movies. I can see that coming as the download speed goes below 2mps.

Nothing else being used. I even turned on my laptop last night while it was buffering all the time. Tested speed it was 53 while it was buffering on the screen.
