If I read your question correctly, I am bit confused.
A Blu Ray plays HD DVDs and doesnt record or process sat signals.
It will deliver a better picture if you have a HD 1080p tv and the recording is in a HD native resolution.
A Hopper will record in 1080i with some compression but is still a good picture.
