A good tech can take the disk out of the drive, put it in a compatible drive and recover what may be recoverable - maybe nothing, maybe something depending on if there is physical damage to the disk. This is going to cost you. If this Excel file is vital it may be worth the expense. If it is just an inconvenience, install a new drive and learn a lesson. When you buy the new drive, also buy yourself a 1 to 4 TB portable USB drive and Acronis True Image software. Backup the pc drive regularly and you will never have this problem again.
Also - never put your data on your hard drive. Put a USB flash drive in, leave it in, and direct all of your data to folders on that drive. Back up those drives too!
