Non-RV Specific GPS

We will be moving to Seattle Summer 2014. We have a Rand McNally RV GPS for when we are driving the RV. However, my husband wants a GPS for every day driving when we aren't in the RV. We also want the Lifetime Traffic Update option.

What brand or model would you suggest?

    One of the Garmin with LMT will do you just fine.
    LM= lifetime maps
    LMT=lifetime maps and traffic.
    You will want LMT in Seattle area. Traffic is horrendous in the SEATAC area. Always expect double the time you think it should take to go anywhere.
    Go to the Garmin outlet store online and pick one with the features you think you want. Don't skimp on screen size.

    Pick one from Costco or Best Buy with the above features. Garmin is the best out there
  • Been using Tom Tom for a long time now. Still happy with it. Do the updates about twice a year and have had no problems, except occasionally taking us the "country route" which turns out to be a bit more "country" than we were expecting! But priceless when looking for new locations we've never been to before. Right-on every time!

    The other option is an app on your cell phone. (But I like Tom Tom better, it keeps the phone free.)
  • A tablet sounds like a good idea until you have to leave it in your car!
    I would look for a Garmin Nuvi. You will find a number of them. If the location in your car is close enough to see and reach you don't even need a big screen, just something in the 5" range will do fine.
  • The RandMcNally traffic options leave me unhappy.

    I love having a Garmin LMT - LifeTime Maps and Traffic - as a backup for busy cities.

    Once every four or five months I have to go to a doctor in Dallas - and I realize why I like not working anymore when I face that traffic again.
  • We've had very good luck with the TomTom Via 1605 TM here in Phoenix and on the road. Includes lifetime maps and live traffic. We use it in the RV and on our Harley's when we're traveling.
