1. I have the Nook software on my Samsung tablet. I bet you a half cup of coffee you can get it added to a laptop.
2. I charge it up after use so I never have to use it while plugged in. Agree with you about the charging port location (it's also at the bottom of my tablet) BUT I also have a protective cover on my tablet which extends below the port about 1/2 inch - adds some protection.
