not responding

We are having this on all 4 laptops we have. MSN not responding or rv.net not responding or web page not responding or Yahoo not responding etc. Any ideas why?

  • Most likely an issue with your access point? What are you using to connect to the Net? If its a cable modem or Fios, connect directly to it and see if you have Net access? If you do, then its likely your router. Reboot it by powering off/on to see if it resets?

Conversely, If nothing on your modem, then first try rebooting it. Can you connect? If still nothing, bring up Command Prompt, and type ipconfig /all and ENTER. Is your network adapter being assigned a IP address/gateway?

    Interesting.

Earlier today I could NOT get any web page to open from google. Even if I copied the link and pasted it in. ALL the news links to the Paris bombings did not work.

I think they might just have had an incredible overload of everyone trying to get info online regarding the terrorist attacks.
  • Reboot your router if you have problems viewing links on the internet.
Unplug your router or modem from its power outlet (don't just turn it off). Wait 15-20 seconds, then plug it back in. Allow the device a minute or two to turn back on.

I was fighting poor internet on certain feeds all day yesterday trying to watch the football games and the NASCAR night race due to rain. Some of my feeds would stop and refresh than start up again.

Speed connections to my internet provider was fine...

Like others here I thinking it was just internet overload due to the Paris situation.

  • I've been having that same problem on a more frequent basis ever since Windows 10 came out. I'm on 7 but I think all of MS updates are geared to Win 10. I think they are trying to push us all to 10. Just my opinion. I get a lot of black screens while the page refreshes numerous times. Doesn't matter which of my 2 Win 7 laptops I use. Firefox seems to handle it better but still see some issues.
  • I have a Dell computer and went to their website and found it is not compatible with Win/10 although it has Win/7 Pro installed. i have two Acers and have no problems.
  • Some days I have to reboot my cable modem several times a day, as I am on a part of the cable company's network that supports the high school, and they reconfigure things bringing up additional equipment for that load in the morning, then shutting down as the load gets lighter. I suspect that the modem is still looking for a router no longer there, or has cached a routing table no longer valid.

Often a problem like this is in what the router has cached, or your PC has cached, but rebooting the router usually doesn't fix things for me, rebooting the modem does. Even so, it may be a few minutes to a hour before things get back in order.
