In todays time is a CB radio still useful and if so what set up is recommended and what is the cost for it to be purchased and installed professionally?
yup. our CB is on whenever we're driving. two reasons. first, real-time traffic information that is not dependent on cellular data coverage. sure, another driver has to report the problem but over the years the CB has saved our bacon from being caught up in a traffic jam several times. second, our CB also has a built-in weather alert receiver and that can save your life. so, yes, in our opinion it is well worth having a CB AND using it. some will tell you that the foul language used by some is too much and that's occasionally true especially in cities and around truck stops at night. so when that happens we either turn up the squelch or power off for a few minutes.
a new 40-channel CB with a weather alert function might cost somewhere $75-$100. installation? all depends on how complicated it might be.
