So we went camping this last weekend and I brought everything to see if I could get it to work, I was unsuccessful. I set up the HR24-200 DirecTv box in my rig with the Slimline dish. Turns out you have to use the dang power inserter with the dish, and there doesn't seem to be any way around that, is there?
My main problem is that we mostly dry camp with no hookups, so I put a small power inverter behind my TV to power the TV and DTV box, but I didn't know about the power inserter. How do people power their satellite dish when they are boondocking? Do they install a larger inverter to cover the whole rig or do they run their generator every time they want to watch TV? I'm trying to figure all this out before our 2-week long trip in September.
This is the power equipment I have onboard:
- Two 12V deep cell marine batteries (I know 6's are better but I can't fit them until we modify the tongue tray).
- 160W solar panel.
- 4000w onboard generator.
