Over the air tv reception

Think your all winners. Found a couple of things. First my winegard switch box was turning itself on and off when it wanted to. Because of no power I plugged in the 12 adapter that came with the Jack. Maybe blew the jack when the power from the winegard decided to come on. So the switch box power worked when it wanted to. This was my problem for the last 10 years but, I would play and it would work and then stop again. Decided that enough was enough and ordered a new switch box and the winegard Rayzar.air antenna. Will install both when they arrive and hope it is finally finished. I have been playing with this for about ten years back and forth. Thought it was fixed when the box decided to work and then it would stop again

The LED that the OP is talking about is on the bottom of the Jack antenna. If the LED is lit it is getting power, but it may not be the full 12 volt.

Should yes. but there is always the possibility
of a problem between switch and antenna.. I am not a professional service tech. though I do, from time to time, assist others.

I have seen:
1: NO coax connected to the switch at all
2: Bad connector (Bulkhead connector at roof)
3: Bad connectors (many) Cable ends
I have not seen IN THIS CONTEXT a bad connector on the antenna head, but I have in other contexts.
4 Bad coax. But you replaced that already.

The Sensar will remain the premier antenna for distance. It is, however, highly directional so if you happen to be in an area where signals are broadcast from multiple towers on different parts of the horizon the Razar Air might get more signals but certainly from the maximum distance.
I hope to get one and test it but from what I can gather, it should be a "good" antenna, possibly about the same as a Jack, but not as good (distance wise) as a Sensar.

Winegard has a new FlatWave Air Outdoor antenna that may be the best available in a small size. It appears to be adaptable to existing crank up mounts. There was a report that they are working on a RV version. Anyone know more about this antenna?

Low voltage won't blow the amp but it will certainly prevent it from working.

From your driveway a Batwing or Jack will work just fine, but the smoke test is what either does at the campground. While the Jack is smaller, the newest version of the Batwing with the Wingman integrated is by far a better performer across the board, although you may or may not notice it until you really get out into the boonies to notice.

In addition to what Bill suggests, take an F Barrel to bypass the power supply and take your Rayzar up on the roof and plug in where the Batwing goes. That will verify you have a good RF path to the TV.

You first want to check the power up on the roof. Remove the coax from the head of the antenna and verify that you have at least 12VDC when read on the center conductor of the coax. If you do not and you are sure you have at least 12VDC coming out of your power supply then you have a bad cable between the power supply and the antenna. If you do have good 12V power on the roof then re-install the Winegard antenna, add the Wingman add-on and point the antenna toward to local TV towers. You should have excellent reception unless you are in a valley or similar bad location.

In order of performance you wend .. Straight off the edge of the cliff.

Odds are the power to the roof is non-existant as the other person said.. THis can be caused by such things as not knowning how to turn it on (Will explain) or a blown fuse.

How to turn it on method 1: Wall plate
Many RV's have a Wall plate, normally near the TV that is nearest the Rooftop antenna. it has a 12 volt outlet, a switch, a Light, and an antenna connection.

Some have a box of many buttons, you push a button that is in a group called 'MAIN TV' for example and the button says ANT or Antenna.. On the left is a button marked POWER, that's it.

Some have both.. In which case it's the wall plate.

SOME. very few, have a switch, by itself, may say WINEGARD on the mounting plate.. That's it.

No 12 volt to roof = no booster (Pre-amp) since it's in the antenna head on the roof.

Best antenna for long range reception
Winegard WITH Wingman and repalce the wall plate with a SENSAR PRO.

What I use.. See last sentence.
