Low voltage won't blow the amp but it will certainly prevent it from working.
From your driveway a Batwing or Jack will work just fine, but the smoke test is what either does at the campground. While the Jack is smaller, the newest version of the Batwing with the Wingman integrated is by far a better performer across the board, although you may or may not notice it until you really get out into the boonies to notice.
In addition to what Bill suggests, take an F Barrel to bypass the power supply and take your Rayzar up on the roof and plug in where the Batwing goes. That will verify you have a good RF path to the TV.
