Pathway X2 + Receivers

After doing some research, I plan to purchase a Winegard Pathway X2 satellite dish. However, I am unclear on the advantage of one model of receiver over another. I recognize not all are compatible with the X2. Three have been recommended elsewhere - the Wally, VIP 211Z and the VIP211K. Can anyone provide some insight on the advantages/disadvantages of each of these? If I purchase one of these now and want to obtain another later, am I committed to obtaining the same model the second time.
Thanks in advance.
  • With the 211k you can add an external hard drive to use as a dvr. Pay a one time $40 fee and have no monthly charges. Saves a lot of money over time.

One negative is I can no longer get Dish On Demand or Anywhere service with my 211k. I think that is what it's called when I used to be able to go on my computer and log in and watch old episodes of shows I missed. I can no longer do this.
  • In addition, the 211K has an RF modulated output that can mirror the signal to a second TV such as in the bedroom. The 211K also has a built in OTA tuner, while the other two require buying on optional USB adapter.
  • The Wally is the latest receiver from DISH. It's big advantages is it's smaller, runs cooler, and uses an RF remote so you don't have to point directly at the receiver to make it work, which is a real advantage in an RV when the receiver is mounted in a cabinet behind a door. Only out put connections are HDMI and composite (yellow) for picture.

The 211Z is the previous model receiver somewhat larger, uses a IR remote that must be "seen" by the receiver. Output connections are HDMI or composite for picture.

The 211K is the oldest, largest, and hottest operating. It has the most output options with HDMI, composite (yellow), and component (R-G-B) with a IR remote.

So what you choose depends on what your coach requires to hook up to the TV's.
