I don't remember seeing this paragraph before...

That way, you will still be able to view, download, or delete your Picasa Web Albums, you just won’t be able to create, organize or edit albums (you would now do this in Google Photos). "

If you want to copy and paste your captions from the old picasa web album photo's to whatever new site you use.... might be possible to do for a long time. (WHAT A PAIN)

I have noticed that google+ photos now have an edit feature to add text to the folder. Not to the individual photo's... maybe that's coming. Maybe they will ferry the captions across to google from picasa someday. I just can't take that chance.

If you set them to "public" anyone can see them, including you, if you go to your home page. You don't have to log in to see them. you'd only have to log in to upload, edit, or manage the pics.

You should do a test to see how they arrange themselves... and how you can set them to be viewed.. by file name or modified date or created date. Picasa has folders... so does smugmug. Smugmug also has galleries which can be tucked inside a folder.

Once you name and set a folder as open to the public...all the galleries under that folder inherit that security setting unless you change it.

There's a 21 day free trial... give it a try.

Thanks for the link ... the answer is yes I can see your 6 pics and the text associated with each pic if I'm cognizant enough to click on "Info", but no I don't see any other albums, just one with 6 pics in it.

My issue is that I have more than one Google account and the account holding my RVing pics is not my main account. I'm currently using Safari and have it set to go to my main Gmail account as that's what I first check every time I sit down with the computer ... and that in turn means that if I go to Google Photos it goes to those albums associated with that account rather than my secondary account which holds my RV pics. To overcome this I first have to log out of my main account and log into the secondary account but what I want to do is not have to log in at all when all I want to do is look at my pics, just as I've done with your pics. I'm guessing this has something to do with "sharing" the album? :h

SoundGuy, try this link to a tiny recent album of mine. It is never clear to me what is visible to others when sharing an album. I would like to know if you can view it OK, does it give you access to other albums of mine?

I am 77 and if I have learned one thing in life, it is that change is constant. The tech world's current thing is cloud based computing, until the next thing comes along. It is kind of ironic because cloud based computing is similar to the old room filling mainframe computers when users had just a terminal to access the mainframe in the sky. :)

Going back to Page 1 of this discussion DutchmenSport provided this link to his own public albums on Photobucket. I clicked on it and sure enough I can see his albums but if I select one of his pics there's also an EDIT tab at the top right that supposedly allows me to edit his pics ... surely that's not the case!? Does that mean I can edit his pic to my own liking but it doesn't affect the actual pic in his own album? And BTW, what's this nonsense popup that says "You have 1 message waiting for you"? :h EDIT: OK, so it seems installing Ad Blocker got rid of this annoying popup. :B

Another question - where's the text that belongs to each picture? I don't see any nor any way to activate it so does that mean DutchmenSport didn't add any or because Photobucket just doesn't allow it? :h

I'm another Picasaweb user and I'm following this thread with big interest. We share our trips with friends and family using Picasa and the albums are important - each trip gets its own album. And nobody has to sign in to see the pics - which is very important.

Anyway - good luck finding a replacement - I'll let you know if I come up with anything...

Migrating Picasa albums to SmugMug

This is an ongoing post... answering a question posted months ago. Scan down to the March 5th post and they discuss successfully moving albums WITH CAPTIONS with smuggler and Firefox.

That is as far as I am right now with it.

I've uploaded an album from my computer to SmugMug and now I'll migrate the same album of photo's from Picasa albums to SmugMug albums... and see if the captions move across with the photo's.

The suggestion is made to just leave things as they are until May 1st to see what Google does with Picasa web albums... they may just leave it be but not support it.

I have just spent the day... six hours... moving 180 albums (over 5,000 photos) from Picasa WEB to Smugmug. Everything moved intact with captions and inserted YouTube links that were in some of the captions.

I signed up for a 21 day trial... uploaded an album of 10 photos from my computer to Smugmug first to see how that went. Then using FIREFOX browser and a tool called Smuggler... moved one album from Picasa WEB over to Smugmug to see if the captions and links inserted in the captions transferred. They did.

I then signed up for a year... and using smuggler... moved all 180 Picasa Web albums over to Smugmug. First I did 10 at a time... but the last 80 albums I did in one transfer. Nothing was lost. I now have all the Picasa Web albums safely transferred to Smugmug.

Whatever happens to Picasa Web... whether it stays linked to my BLog or not, I'm ready to reinsert new links if I need to down the road. The BASIC plan in Smugmug is all I need and for $40 a year... it's worth it to me.

So let me ask this a different way - is there a photo hosting site out there which like Picasaweb would allow me to access my pics without having to first log in? :h Currently I have a tab on my Favorites bar that simply says "SoundGuy" - I click on that and I'm instantly viewing all my Picasaweb public albums and would only have to log in if I want to work with those that are private. Surely this can't be that difficult for other photo hosting sites to offer the same! :S
