The Garmin 760 does the routing functions very well and it works with a Garmin backup camera, the $150 BC-20, so only one display on the dash does it all.
I don't want to use it for planning as the screen is too small to show a trip covering a thousand or more miles. Even my 27" display is barely adequate and I often resort to paper maps to see the areas where we will be traveling in the US.
To quote Mason Williams "how hopeless it all becomes when we seek all the answers in one". The Swiss Army knife approach involves a complete set of compromises all in one solution. Not any different with machines and software.
