In St John's...... Quiddi Vidi with it's mini brewery should not be missed. Signal Hill, Cape Spear, the Railway Coastal Museum, fish and chips on Henry Street, and so much more. Tons of history there.
We were a bit surprised to find a beautiful modern city but with all of the stereotypical attractions associated with Newfoundland. Think-----A fisherman in his rain gear (including a sou'wester) standing in a dorey hauling in a longline during a raging nor'easter.
Funny, I was born and raised in Nova Scotia, but had never been to Newfoundland. Only after moving to BC (4000 miles away) did it become important to visit this amazing province. We spent 10 days there, but when we go back, it will be for at least a month. We missed so much.
Everyone I talk to that’s been to Newfoundland says it’s a “must do” trip. I’m sure we’re going to love it.
Thanks:) - ssthrdExplorerIn St John's...... Quiddi Vidi with it's mini brewery should not be missed. Signal Hill, Cape Spear, the Railway Coastal Museum, fish and chips on Henry Street, and so much more. Tons of history there.

A couple of links for you just for fun, but something to take seriously if you plan to take the Port aux Basques ferry. Talk to the truckers before you disembark. They will fill you in on wind conditions at Wreckhouse. If they recommend waiting for the wind to subside, I would heed their advice.

Lots to see and do in Newfoundland. I posted a number of blog entries about our Newfoundland travels, starting with:
Newfoundland Post 1
Art - trailerbikecampExplorerFor historic attractions, look at L'Anse Aux Meadows at the north end of the Northern Peninsula. Its the site of a Viking Settlement about 1000yrs ago. Or visit Cupid's the oldest English community in Canada, and the archeological dig there. Right next to Cupid's is Brigus, both small communities, and vist Hawthorne Cottage. It was the home of Bob Bartlett, an early sea captain and explorer.
On your way across the island visit Twilingate to view the icebergs, and take a short drive to Crow Head for their dinner theater. Its worth it.
Take a drive down the Burin Peninsula to visit Lawn and St. Lawrence. This is where the US ships Truxton and Pollux ran aground in a storm during WWII. Hundreds of men were saved by the locals.
In St. John's, check out Signal Hill. It was part of the defences of St. John's Harbour and the site of the first Trans-Atlantic wireless signal. Don't forget Cape Spear, the most easterly point in North America. I have listed the major ones but their are many more.
And during the summer, many communities each have their own festivals. Enjoy local musicians, and entertainmement.
