We had similar issues and even lost and Olympus to dust/moisture. As much as I love my big Canon and get it out when it is safe, we have had a waterproof Fufi XP for some years and it has not failed us. It does not have stabilization or much zoom, but it doesn't seem to mind swimming. When it has gotten really dirty, I wash it before I open it.
I uses a proprietary battery that you can buy on E-bay and I put a cell phone screen protector on to save it from scratches. The screen is the only view finder.
