I unable to get my wired Zone Defense backup camera repaired. I would like to go with an inexpensive wireless cam and monitor. All of them seem to want to be mounted on the license plate. I want to mount the cam on the bracket that had the old cam attached. I think I can use the 12v existing wiring to have a full time view from the RV cab. Does anyone have any advice ? How to wire ? How to mount ? Any quality cams for small money ? Thanks to all.
Should I post this somewhere else ?? Thanks again.
I just received a wireless backup camera today that I bought on ebay for $53.99 including shipping. I ordered it four days ago. If you go to ebay and search for item 400968626504 you'll see the one I received.
There are no installation instructions with this one, but it's a simple process. There are three pair of red (+) and black (-) power wires. The reds go to the positive side and the blacks to negative/ground. One pair goes to the camera/wireless transmitter. One pair goes to the monitor. And, the third pair goes to the wireless receiver.
There are yellow and red connectors that hook the camera to the transmitter.
There is a yellow connector from the wireless receiver that plugs into one of two yellow connectors on the monitor; the monitor can accept signals from two cameras. One of the buttons on the monitor switches between the two channels. If when the monitor is turned it doesn't display what the camera is seeing, plug the yellow receiver wire into the other connector.
And then there is a blue power wire going into the wireless receiver (along with the red and black wires). This is what turns on the monitor. So if you want the camera/monitor to work only when you're in reverse, you'll have to connect it to the power wire going to the back up light. Either you'll have to run a wire back to the back-up bulb at the rear of the vehicle of find the appropriate wire elsewhere to tie into. Or, connect the blue wire with the red wire to a power source and have power to the monitor at all times, turning it on and off with the power button on the monitor whenever you want to use it.
I haven't installed it yet, but I hooked everything together using jumper wires and a 12 volt power supply and it worked well with the wireless transmitter and receiver about a foot apart. I'm impressed with the video quality of this unit, but have no idea yet about how well it will operate when mounted in the RV with some distance between the transmitter and receiver.
