So to my understanding if I want a Portable Automatic Satellite to use with Direct TV Standard definition my choices are either the Winegard Carryout G2 or the King Quest.Here are my questions:Is this correct or are there others?What are the pros and cons to the different systems?From users what are your opinions of the system you have?Thanks for your assistance.

Neither of those antennas will work if you want Direct HD programming. For HD you want either a roof mounted Winegard Travler or a tri pod mounted oval dish like you use at home.

We like our Winegard G2 which is a couple of years old and requires separate power to enable the dish to find the satellites. Now I understand the new ones get their power thru the coax eliminating the need for a separate cable.

Why would the satellite be useless? If there is one satellite to catch all the channels, wouldn't it be more effective. In other words, the current portable satellite dishes would then be able to get HD channels on KA, where as in todays market they cannot because there are two ways to broadcast, ie KA and KU. Just wondering.

Thanks for that info.
This I have found out is a big reason for going with the King Quest since you can get a UC 1000 controller that will allow the King Quest to receive Dish HD

Keep in mind, whatever you chose, it will be useless by no later than 2019 when "experts" speculate that DirecTV will no longer broadcast SD.

I used the Carryout for several years & it performs flawlessly. It's recently been retired to a shelf in the garage in favor of a HD setup, but the Carryout has never let me down. Highly recommend it.

Howdy!

We have been using the G2 now for over a year and has worked out well. The King Quest was not out when we purchased ours. I like the G2 as it is small easy to store. Also once we have a satellite connection I nook the 12 vote power cable and store it away.
