Possible? Downgrade a windows 10 to make it a windows 7

No, I'm not looking for a custom setup on this laptop. If my Vaio ever dies... this info will come in handy.

I have looked and looked online... Best Buy, Adorama, B&H, ...
then this came up this morning. Bingo.

That's a pretty top end processor.

I know you can buy the consumer brands for less (and less quality) but then, you can always "buy two" for much more $$$ when the C/brand breaks and you can't get CS on the line, and once you do, you can't get help or answers you understand.

Sometimes it's a good idea to do it once at a little more expense. Just offering that option to the OP ...

Look at XOTIC PC ... they build custom ASUS laptops, at a good price. Based in Kansas USA. wwww.xoticpc.com It has a Win7 pro option.

Xotic has standard laptops, or you can customize.

ASUS originates in Taiwan (the basic case components), but most of the assembly guts are Samsung or Intel.

I have a Lenovo desktop and laptop now and have had no problem with them. I would certainly recommend them.

Thank you... at least I know that downgrading a windows 10 to a 7 is probably asking for a lot of issues. So I won't do that.

I have never ordered a computer or a laptop that arrived exactly as expected.
The asus desktop didn't have wifi... but they did send me a wifi card at no charge and it was easy to install.

Lou's small form Asus desktop had a power module failure. It would not power up straight out of the box. They did fix it quickly. I think the return turnaround was less than a week.

Prior to that I ordered a Sony vaio silver series laptop back in 2012... wonderful machine. I'm still happy with it. i5 / windows 7 pro. I'd buy another vaio in a heartbeat if they were still making them. I think they stopped and went to only all-in-one desktops, Not sure they still are into computers right now at all ... I thought I read several months ago that they are restarting again with the laptops?? I have yet to see one anywhere though.

I'm leaning toward a Lenovo ThinkPad...

I have win 8, I would prefer win 7,
In no hurry to jump on the 10 bandwagon

Here is my recap of what others have said that I agree with:

--The best way to get Win7 on your computer is to buy a computer with Win7 factory installed. I believe Dell also still sells some models with Win7.

--You can still buy a Win7 disk and install it on your computer yourself. If it is a new computer there may be some bugs with the drivers for things like graphics, wifi, etc, that will not get solved as quickly as they would on Win 8.1 or Win10. And you may have to deal directly with the individual part mfrs for these drivers and updates.

--Win10 can be configured to ALMOST stop spying on you and ALMOST stop upgrading without your permission or knowledge. Many people (not me) feel that is good enough.

--Each OS version is somewhat better than the last. Even Win8.1 has things that are better than win7, although a LOT of work is needed to get rid of the demented GUI.

If I was in the OP's position (and I was six months ago), I would widen my search to include Win 8.1 machines (factory-installed), IF IF I was also condiering a self-install of Win 7. The fact is that configuring win 8.1 will still be easier and likely more successful than the effort required to get a NON-factory win7 up and running.

I love win7, but as Fate would have it, I'm running two machines with Win 8.1 and none with win7 anymore. Now that I've turned off 99% of the cr@p, I like it better than win7 99% of the time. But once or twice a month I'll accidently drag my thumb across the touchpad and out comes the charms bar and my blood pressure starts spurting through my ears--ARGHH!

I do agree this "forced upgrade" is getting me ready to move to Linux or even a Chromebook if I want true cloud service. However I don't realistically expect any company to support and maintain an OS forever so that I can use my old programs. {sarcasm} And besides, you do have a choice, you can use your old programs on a computer not connected to the Internet and buy a new one just for that! {/sarcasm} :W

We can each toot the merits of Win10 or Win7 all we want. My gripe with this is that we have no choice. I bought a Laptop and programs believing I will be able to use them until I choose something else. But keep getting a shove into something that only costs more but doesn't do me anything unique that I can't do now.

My internet works, my Photoshop works, my Canon DPP works, my MSWord works. I don't need all the fancy additions that seem the flavor of the month ... Good for Microsoft, go make money with new customers and new technology, but leave the old customers (the ones that built your company buying your products) alone with what we have unless WE CHOOSE to update. All I'm asking is leave me a choice ...
