Yes a good Yagi will beat the Batwing.. Not sure yet about that antenna assembly but it resembles one I do know that used to be made not far from where I lived.

IF you are parked for LONG times, a mast (Such as a Sunsetter flag pole) with a good size residential Yagi.. Well.. I've seen stations over 100 miles away on VHF low band. But that was with a 100' Mast (Tower) at my parent's house.. Even though the house was in the "No Coverage" zone (South of Union City MI on Francisco RD) we got TV from Detroit (over 100 miles Lansing/Jackson, Kalamazoo/Battle Creek/Grand Rapids and South Bend, IN.
  • Both my Airstreams had one. A 66 and 72. That thing could get like 3-4 channels....oh wait.
  • Chris is right, they work great, just don't leave it out in an ice storm, IF you plan on moving

while it usually didn't matter, I do remember watching a friend up on his Airstream after a freezing rain storm. The rest of us had thought ahead :)

  • The skyliner works just like a Batwing
Had a crank inside the RV
Raise it up then turn it and point in direction of broadcast tower
Just remember to bring it down before leaving camp

Late friend of mine had one mounted on a King's Highway class A

I think Airstream used them also
  • I had 1 of these mounted on a tripod that worked well.

However, it got knocked over once and knocked around in the RV and an element broke off and another one got bent. Still worked well but really was not conducive for an RV.

So I just got one of these:

and it pulls in well, is mounted on a tripod, is compact and stores easily.

I use much the same when Snowbirding BUT I have to manually fold it up. It's mounted on my ladder so easy enough to point and unfold when needed. Gets good reception without a booster/amp. Yes, the short stubs are for UHF and longer for FM and UHF.
OH YES, and it's HD but then rabbitt ears are also.
