pricing competition

went to CW ocala fl and looked at the RDS aux fuel tanks and got pricing for ordering/shipping and then went to Northern tools and the cost for the same aux tank at Northern tools was nearly $400 + cheaper and that included shipping.

I would think that such a high markup will result in less sales unless that customer is too lazy to shop around.

Hopefully, next time we go there, the pricing is in tune with other stores.

thank you,.

Yes, as you found out, CW is not in it to be competitive, they are in it to charge as much as possible. I always buy elsewhere as it has always been cheaper in my instances.

Your statement should read, CW is not in it to be competitive on price alone. Competing on price alone is almost always a road to disaster since the guy down the street can always undercut you by a dollar.
  • They are successful because many rv'ers are die-hard CW customers. No matter what, they feel that CW is their "go to place".
I've posted to questions as to where to buy "this or that" and directed to Amazon, where the item is listed, and sold for almost $100 bucks less than CW, and yet they went to CW for the purchase. Almost everything in the CW catalog can be purchased on Amazon, or through other rv parts suppliers for much less, and many times with free shipping, even on small $ purchases.
Just can't understand the mind set of some people.

and yet they are wildly successful and dominating the RV sales market! Explain if you can?

Marketing skills just like the soap manufacturers, cosmetic manufacturers and the cereal manufacturers.

  • In a free market enterprise any merchant may charge anything they like. It doesn't make them a crook. In a free market enterprise the buyer is free to purchase/not purchase anywhere they choose. Merchants attempting to charge too much will lose business and fail and buyers willing to pay too much will lose their money. Those who are savvy will find the middle ground between price and service. Capitalism is a great system!
  • We were at a NM CW and needed a portable Surge Protector. Nothing on the shelf. So we went right next door to LaMesa and they had them for a much higher price. Showed the webpage I printed to clerk and asked if he could come down on price. He said, let me check and beat CW price by a $1,

You certainly have this right. I looked at both sites and found it very hard to compare apples to apples. Have to input an order to check shipping charges and I didn't want to do that.

    Excellent choice of words. :)
