Process of elimination

Hi Everyone, We are paying about 80 bucks for our two AT&T flip phones and 75 bucks for home (Windstream) phone/internet. 117 bucks for DISH Network.
Is there anything I can have at home and camping to replace these?
I need internet and cell phone service.
I also have Dish but think I need to keep that at $117.00/month.
I have a separate antenna for dish network while traveling.
Thanks, Marvin
BTW, Neither of us use Text messaging.
$272.00/month is putting a strain on our fixed income.

At home scrap the wire line. if you use it for DSL interente get a "Dry Line" (no dial tone) way less expensive

Dish TV... I had that. I also had Direct, if you MUST have "Premimum" services those are your choices when RVing. Get an RV plan.
Direc can still sell "Distant Network Service" so you get ABC,NBC and all the TLAs (three letter Acronyms) no matter where you go with the possible exception of PBS.

Dish you have to call and change your service location every time you move.

use the "Spare" receivers in the house (you wil have to self install a dish/Antenna)

OR do what I do.. The simple version: OTA ANTENNA.. Yup Winegard Sensar IV with Sensar Pro and I can't watch all the TV I get.

Complex version... And this is very complex but read it anyway (Simplifed version here)

I have 2 (Shoudl have kept the 3rd one) REPLAY TV DVR's. these are older, no longer made (DirectTV owns the patents now) Digita Video Records NTSC standard,, They do not do modrn ATSC but I have a pair of digital converters in fron of them.. These are connected one to the MAIN tv up front and one to the Bedroom. the Sensar Pro feeds the multiplex switch (Box of many buttons) up front and from there it can feed any of the TV's or The front converter or the Replays, nto that they can use OTA any more.. The converters feed the REPLAY units on A/V in so the antenna jack is open in case the campagrond has Park Cabe on the NTSC standard (Some still do) When I was stuck in such a park it was fun because my favorite statrion did nto always work on cable, but did on teh OTA so the Replays choose Cabe or OTA automaticalyk they also contro the Converters ike they were Sat Receivers... |
They are networked so I can record in one room watch in the other, switch rooms mid show, and so on and a those "Only our over pricced subscription service lets you do this" stuff.

Finally I have a dedicated 100 dollar computer that for 25/year gets access to a n electronic TV Guide (Program listing service)

So they DVR's work just ike a Dish DVR.. In fact... DISH got sued for copying Replay's software for use in their DVR's so it is JUST like a Dish DVR.

ANd I do it all for 25/year after initial investiment, and the Replays... Well I got them long, long ago.
  • We dumped dish several years ago. We used sling tv for about 2 years and just recently changed to YouTube tv. I like the choices on YouTube tv and I can also record to the cloud. The recordings are saved for 9 months. Of course all of this is based on having internet service.
  • Dump Dish. Use Over The Air (OTA) and one of the now many TV over Internet such as YouTube TV, etc. Their seems to be more of these popping up everyday.

Consumer Cellular without data (keep your flip phones if you are happy with them)]/i] is $35 + taxes & fees. There is a 5% discount for AARP members.
  • Time to cut the cord and dump the Dish.

Switch to Direct TV Online, you get a discount since you're with ATT, and streaming it doesn't count against your data. I believe it's $25 a month with your discount

Dump Windstream too, use your AtT service for phone and internet at home.

    That's a savings of $167 a month
  • Not using text messaging because you don’t understand it or because? Heck, we text within the house, with the daughter and her husband...even ”come in for lunch!”
  • I am a Consumer Cellular customer. Consumer Cellular uses AT&T network.
I suggest you take a look their rates. I have two cell phones and you can also use your cell phone system with your home phone. Your home phone will have it's own number and is $10.00 per month. Your cell phones will vary dependent on how many minutes you subscribe to.

    consumer cellular
  • Consumer Cellular for the phones. It's on ATT network, so your coverage will be identical.
