Pros and Cons of Millenicom

I've had Millenicom.com for about a year now. Used it at home for my home computer usage and now use it for full timing. The MiFi is sitting in a Wilson Sleek right now.

The hotspot functions as a router and will run about 6 hours or so on a charge. Can put it in your pocket and sit in a park, or at the beach - run a tablet, notebook PC, Nook, etc. I usually just leave mine plugged in all the time. You can run up to 10 devices on it if I remember correctly. I also have my Iphone set to use it for data purposes if in range.

Runs on the Verizon system, which was a main point for me. $69.99/month. Seems like a deal. And as others have stated you get to talk to real people up there in Portland if you need customer support. What's not to like ?

The replacement device that Millenicom sent me when my first device failed is a Pantech Jetpack MHS291LVW. This MiFi device displays usage in real time, resetting itself automatically at the end of the billing period.

Another plus for Millenicom is the fact that they do not charge any taxes on your service. $69.99 per month plan is billed to you as $69.99, NOT $69.99 PLUS taxes!

As others have said, their customer service is great. They answer the phones with live people, who can actually help you.

I've been with Millenicom about 3 years. No cons, they are a great company. I started with the Sprint plan, but they no longer have it. Wait time to talk to a real person. Always less than ONE minute. Call and talk to them, they speak real english and are very helpful.

Will Millenicom work with Skype?

How do you figure that. We paid $99 for a Novatel 4620LE mifi device and that was with a month to month contract that costs us $70 for 20GB of data. With Verizon they send you the Novatel at no charge but they charge for starting up service and they charge $70 a month for 14GB and have very steep penalty charges if you exceed the 14GB at all. Read all the complaints on the Verizonwireless forum.

I bought out my Verizon contract for $175 and I saved that amount in my first 3 months with Millenicom.

The only drawback with Millenicom is that you do not automatically get real time data usage information. If you use a Cradlepoint 95 or 1400 router you can monitor data usage in real time minute by minute with Millenicom.

The WiFi range for a MiFi is typically in the 30-40 ft range, depending on walls, etc, that might reduce the strength. Router WiFi range varies quite a bit depending on the router antenna design, making a direct comparison difficult without specific model info. MiFi's are internal battery powered, and can also be USB cable powered and charged, usually from a small standalone power supply.

The range for the router portion is limited to about 30'-50'. The range from a tower is on par with any cell phone, but many, like us, use the Wilson Sleek amp to increase the range. However, the Wilson Sleek, MUST be the 4G Verizon model.
