Question MIFI 2200

I was given a MIFI 2200 that is not activated. I know it's just a 3G device but can I take it to a Verizon outlet and get it activated? I don't want a contract and would only want to purchase the cards that you use by the month. Is this possible?

When I questioned our local Verizon store about turning the 2200 unit off they said I could do this only two times a year for a total period not to exceed 6 months...

When we are camping with our Verizon MIFI 2200 unit we get by just fine with the 3GB Dataplan service that we have grandfathered in for several years now. This is mainly for paying bills online, checking emails, yaping with the kids, and some surfing the web. We do not use any downstreaming for TV or Video signals. The Verizon MIFI account is great for checking your usage. Have never gone over my 3GB in the whole 5 years we had the 3GB dataplan. I don't think they offer have this 3GB plan anymore and it will be a 5GB dataplan per month for around $60.

The Verizon MIFI works great for us at just about everywhere we use. It works everywhere we get Verizon cell phone service.

If we get to the point we want to start down streaming HDTV and Video we will go for the MILLENICOM 20GB dataplan Network that uses the same VERIZON backbone. They use the 4G version same brand MIFI box...

  • Thanks for the info. I think then I'll take a drive up to the Verizon store and see what they can do.
  • we have a verizon mifi and turn it on for the months that we travel. We deactivate it when we get home.
  • If it is a Verizon Mifi, probably. If it is a Sprint or t-Mobile, etc., probably not.

Verizon has both monthly contract ones and prepaid ones, and according to my local Verizon store, you can't use either for the other, that is, if you have a normal monthly one, you can't activate it for a prepaid account. But you CAN pay for a month's usage, and not need a contract, and at the end of the month, cancel. You also can't set the prepaid one up to be a normal monthly account.

    Hope that helps.
