Is that on craigslist? That looks familiar. Have you gone to look at it? I had a guy with one that looks like that exact picture (it was a while ago so I am not 100% sure). Anyway, when I wanted to go take a look, he gave excuses like he was out of town or couldn't make it. He never asked for money, so I don't know if he was trying to scam me or was fishing for e-mail addresses or what. I got the scam vibe for sure.
Anyway, I have that one. I bought it from PPL motorhomes. I like it, but they have the smaller G2 that is smaller. I wish I had a smaller one. It is a little bulky - not heavy, just bigger than I would like.
Pro's - not having to try and find the satellites manually which can be a pain with non-auto satellite.
Con's - big
At that price - no, there are 5 near me on Craigslist for $225 with a tri-pod. If you can't test it, then if it's broken it's worthless. If you can test it and it works, go with 2-250 in my opinion used.
Value of tripod - new $60, I see them for $25 usually. I don't have one as it can just sit on the ground for $0 worst case. The tripod only stands 1.5ft high anyway. I have a ladder mount for mine, but sometimes due to trees I have moved it forward to the front of the trailer on the roof.
To test it, there should be a cigarette lighter cable that plugs into it - just plug it in and you should hear it moving around until it lock on to the satellites. The only real way to see if it works is to use a directv/dish box and TV. That looks like the same one I have and I think inside you can flip a switch to make it switch from directv to dish if needed.
I have had mine for about 4+ years and it works great. I bought a cigarette lighter adapter that can plug into 110v so I don't have to run the wire to the front inside my trailer where there is an adapter.
